The Slavic tribe of the Czechs arrived in what is now the Czech Republic between the 5th and 6th centuries. However, the region only received the official name of the Czech Republic over a thousand years later; before that, the Bohemian and Moravian names were common. The Czechs first appeared as a common people in the late 9th century, when the Premyslid dynasty ruled Bohemia for a good 400 years.
